3 TV Stocks (Other Than Netflix) Profiting From the Changing Nature of Storytelling

For some TV shows, the story doesn't end after the credits roll. Some shows continue the story in other media. Notably, comic books and movies.

There are multiple benefits to multi-channel storytelling, says Fool contributor Tim Beyers in the following video.

First, marketing. Readers who've seen a comic book tied to a show could be more likely to watch. Certainly, we've seen this with The Walking Dead, which became the highest-rated scripted TV show of the 2012 fall season for AMC Networks .

Second, creativity. At the recent San Diego Comic-Con, Arrow co-creator Andrew Kreisberg told the crowd that a character from the show -- bodyguard John Diggle, played by actor David Ramsey -- would begin appearing in the Green Arrow comic book from Time Warner's DC Comics subsidiary.

And third, franchising. Look what Walt Disney is doing with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which premieres on Sept. 24. The show should introduce new characters, and thereby expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and open the door to creating new billion-dollar franchises.
