Boeing's Order Book Takes 48 Steps Forward, 4 Steps Back
Boeing released its latest report on airplane orders received -- and cancelled -- through September 17, 2013 on Thursday.
To date, the aerospace giant has booked:
763 "gross" orders for various flavors of its 737 regional airliner
132 orders for the 787 Dreamliner
44 for the 777 airliner
five 747 orders
From this total, Boeing subtracted 100 737s, eight 777s, just a single 787 -- but all of the 747s -- for customer cancellations, resulting in a net of 786 commercial airplanes ordered year to date. That's 44 more net new orders than the firm was tallying three weeks ago.
Boeing clarifies on its website that it actually booked 48 gross new orders over the past three weeks -- 33 787s and four 737s ordered by Air Lease Corporation, 10 more 787s ordered by General Electric's GECAS subsdiary, and a single 737 outfitted as a business jet for a VIP. Unnamed customers then reduced this number by a total of four 737 cancellations.
