"Stand Up For Charity" to Benefit Local Non-Profit, Raise Awareness about Aging Water Systems
VOORHEES, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Some pictures are worth a thousand words. Now they can be worth $1,000 to benefit one of five Southern New Jersey non-profits through the "Stand Up For Charity" photo contest sponsored by New Jersey American Water.
The companyinvited attendees at the recent Chamber of Commerce of Southern New Jersey Business Exchange to pose for photos with the logo of a designated charitable organization while standing on its 3D floor mural, which depicts a cutaway of a trench with crew members repairing a busted water pipe. The scene is particularly relevant considering that every two minutes a major water main breaks somewhere in the U.S. and that nearly 20 percent of New Jersey American Water's 9,000 miles of pipes are a century old, and have reached the end of their problem-free lives. Besides highlighting how aging infrastructure presents a long-term challenge to water utilities, the engaging artwork also aims to raise awareness about how the company works to ensure safe, reliable water delivery to homes, businesses and for fire protection statewide.
Participants were asked to select one of the following local non-profits -- Junior Achievement of New Jersey, Hispanic Family Center in Camden, Animal Sanctuary Society, Inc., Food Bank of South Jersey, and Battleship New Jersey -- and be photographed holding its logo.
The photos have been posted on New Jersey American Water's Facebook page. Help raise awareness about the need for a strong water infrastructure and support a good cause by voting for your favorite "Stand Up For Charity" picture here between Sept. 16 - 30. The charity whose photos collect the most votes receives $1,000. The winner will be announced Oct. 1.
