Leading Chinese Transportation Company Relies on Wind River to Meet Stringent Safety Certification Goals
FITSCO passes stringent SIL4 safety integrity standard with Wind River VxWorks Cert Platform and Wind River Professional Services.
Wind River enables FITSCO to receive safety certification in reduced timeframe and within budget.
Company turns to Wind River for deep expertise and long-standing experience with implementation of systems requiring compliance to safety standards.
ALAMEDA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Wind River®, a world leader in embedded and mobile software, announced that Shanghai Fuxin Intelligent Transportation Solution Co., Ltd (FITSCO) successfully passed the stringent SIL4 safety integrity standard in a reduced timeframe and within budget with Wind River VxWorks® Cert Platform and Wind River Professional Services for the development of its innovative rail control system, JeRail® Automatic Train Protection System (ATP Controller).
FITSCO, a transportation technology company that specializes in metro and tram signaling and communication systems solutions, needed to pass SIL assessment, a measurement for specifying the safety integrity requirements of the safety functions to be allocated to electrical/electronic/programmable safety-related systems. This required a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) platform for delivering applications that require certification to the international requirements of EN50128. VxWorks Cert Platform, part of the Wind River portfolio of trusted systems, was selected as a key component of the ATP Controller to enable real time requirements in a safety critical environment.
Wind River Professional Services enabled the seamless integration of the VxWorks Cert Platform safety case - the documented demonstration that the product complies with the specified safety requirements - into the ATP Controller. Specifically, Wind River Professional Services supported the specification and implementation of fault detection mechanisms under challenging safety and performance requirements, as well as the development of software interfaces to particular hardware peripherals using proven processes and tools.
With VxWorks Cert Platform and Wind River Professional Services, FITSCO's ATP Controller was certified to SIL4, the highest level of safety integrity, and as a result was able to enter the international rail industry.
"Wind River was the only vendor with a complete solution that provided us with a holistic safety development approach, ensuring that our project development stayed within our timeframe and cost targets," said Wu Hao, general manager of FITSCO. "Wind River has helped FITSCO deliver the highest levels of safety and quality to our railway customers, and we look forward to continue working with Wind River for our next-generation ATP Controller product development."
"Compliance to safety standards such as EN50128 and SIL4 is becoming increasingly important and often a necessity for the rail industry," said Alexander Damisch, director of industrial systems at Wind River. "It is extremely gratifying to know that Wind River's trusted systems solution and services offering enabled FITSCO to meet their critical project goals of reducing development time and certification risk, allowing them to become a leading player in the global rail industry."
