Assurant's Solar Group Wins Gold Stevie ® Award for Solar Project Insurance in 2013 American Business AwardsSM

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Assurant's solar group won a Gold Stevie® Award in the Best New Product or Service in the Business-to-Business category for its Solar Project Insurance offering at The 11th Annual American Business Awards last night.

Introduced in May 2012, Assurant's Solar Project Insurance provides property, liability and warranty management to protect commercial-sized solar projects. Right-sized for individual projects, this unique coverage reduces insurance costs and provides a critical backstop for original equipment manufacturers' warranties should those companies fail.

"In 1883, the first solar cell converted sunlight into electricity. Now, 130 years later, solar energy is achieving widespread adoption. To help protect the financial future of the industry, Assurant launched solar project insurance and we are honored to be recognized as a Stevie Award winner for this effort," said Jeanne Schwartz, Assurant's vice president of new venture commercialization. "We are proud of providing this innovative offering to the solar industry and continue to evolve our products to meet the ever-changing demands of the commercial and residential solar markets."

The American Business Awards are the nation's premier business awards program. All organizations operating in the U.S.A. are eligible to submit nominations - public and private, for-profit and non-profit, large and small.

"So many remarkable stories of success and innovation were told in the nominations submitted to this year's American Business Awards," said Michael Gallagher, president and founder of the Stevie Awards. "We congratulate all of this year's Stevie Award winners, and thank them for the inspiration provided by their achievements."

More than 3,200 nominations from organizations of all sizes and in virtually every industry were submitted this year for consideration for a Stevie Award, which is nicknamed after the Greek word for "crowned."
