Boeing Wins $330 Million Contract for UAVs, Special Ops Helicopters

The Department of Defense issued 25 new contracts on Monday worth a little more than $903 million combined. Of these, Boeing won both the largest number of contracts awarded and the largest single contract by dollar value.

Boeing's biggest win was a $300 million firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract awarded to its Insitu subsidiary, maker of the five-foot long, 10-foot wing-spanned ScanEagle unarmed, unmanned aerial vehicle. Insitu will supply hardware and provide operational and maintenance services in support of the ScanEagle UAVs operated by the U.S. Special Operations Command. This contract will run through September 2016.

Additionally, Boeing won contracts for:

  • $19.2 million: a contract modification funding additional engineering work on a new MH-47G (a Chinook helicopter tailored for use by special operations forces)

  • and $11.4 million: a contract modification funding the purchase of one additional Longbow crew trainer for the U.S. Army's Apache helicopter program.
