Digital Rapids and DTS Add HLS and Microsoft Smooth Streaming Support for DTS-HD® Content

Support from Media Transformation and Workflow Solutions Provider Digital Rapids Strengthens DTS-HD Integration throughout Ecosystem

AMSTERDAM--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- IBC 2013: Stand 2.B50DTS, Inc. (NAS: DTSI) , a leader in high-definition audio solutions and audio enhancement technologies, today announced that Digital Rapids, trusted provider of innovative solutions and technology for transforming content to reach wider audiences more efficiently, more effectively and more profitably, will support the production of DTS-HD® content in the HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) and Microsoft Smooth Streaming formats.

DTS-HD is a high performance discrete audio codec designed specifically to enable streaming services to deliver content to consumers in immersive 5.1 surround sound.

HLS and Microsoft Smooth Streaming support from Digital Rapids will allow content providers to offer an immersive DTS surround sound experience in streaming media across a broader range of devices, and complements Digital Rapids' previously-announced plans to support DTS-HD in the MPEG-DASH format.

"Adaptive bit rate streaming technologies have been critical in enabling the delivery of reliable, high-quality media streams to viewers across a broad range of devices under varying network and playback conditions. Premium-quality audio is a crucial aspect of consumers' multi-screen media experiences, and we're pleased to support DTS audio technologies within our rich output capabilities for adaptive streaming delivery," said Mike Nann, director of marketing and communications at Digital Rapids.

"This new integration of DTS-HD for popular streaming protocols makes it easier for content creators to produce and package content with DTS surround sound for playback on a wide range of connected devices," said Mark Johnson, vice president, streaming and media solutions for DTS. "We believe consumers will appreciate the incredible audio experience that DTS-HD surround sound will bring when streaming mobile content."

Demonstrations of DTS-HD on multiple devices using the HLS and Microsoft Smooth Streaming platforms will be available at DTS' IBC stand. Digital Rapids will offer support for DTS-HD within HLS in Q4 2013. For more information about DTS, please visit www.dts.com, or connect with DTS on Facebook and Twitter (@DTS_Inc).
