Concurrent Receives a U.S. Patent for Targeted Video Advertising in Electronic Program Guides

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Concurrent (NAS: CCUR) , a global leader in multi-screen video delivery and media data intelligence solutions, today announced it has been awarded U.S. Patent No. 8,522,268 entitled Method and Apparatus for Creating a Targeted Integrated Image. The patent defines a process for creating and incorporating personalized streaming video and images into a subscriber's electronic program guide (EPG) for the purposes of advertisement. The patented process uses consumer viewing and purchasing habits, as well as menu navigation information, to determine which advertisements are most suitable. The mechanism incorporates the selected advertisements into the user interface of the EPG and presents the associated streaming video or still images as an integrated element of the user interface, for example a picture-in-picture window.

"We are happy to announce our second patent award in the past month," said Bob Chism, Chief Technology Officer for Concurrent. "Generating revenue through personalized video advertising is a critical component of both traditional and Internet based video service providers' growth strategies and we are proud to have received a patent for our innovative method."

Concurrent continues to expand its portfolio of patents related to multiscreen content delivery, network DVR, and video monetization. The company was previously awarded a patent for a demand-based edge caching method and for a method of inserting advertisements in network DVR, video-on-demand and time-shifted TV content.
