Scholarships to be Awarded Sept. 21 at "Start Smart" Event

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Western International University (West), a leader in educating adults since 1978, announced today that it is awarding 21 full-tuition scholarships to students around the U.S., including three to residents of Arizona. The local scholarships will be awarded Sept. 21 at the Start SmartSM Tour event at Arizona Mills mall in Tempe.

"Earning a degree is empowering, and we want to help students everywhere achieve their goals," said Tracy Lorenz, president of Western International University. "West is committed to offering a flexible, affordable, attainable online degree program through our upgraded, innovative online course format that fits a variety of lifestyles and helps individuals succeed."

West's online format features eight-week courses that begin each month. Each course follows a weekly schedule that allows students to review short videos and reading assignments, complete interactive exercises to reinforce their knowledge, and engage with instructors and fellow students to put the learning into practical context.

To be considered for the scholarship, in addition to meeting the eligibility requirements, individuals must write a 500-word essay describing how furthering their education with a degree will help them work smarter, live smarter and be smarter in every aspect of their lives. Applications must be received by Sept. 14, 2013. For complete scholarship details including the terms, conditions and submission dates, visit www.west.edu.

West will announce the scholarship recipients at the local Start Smart Tour event. The tour is traveling throughout the country to help working adults get started on a path to a quality university degree. The free, two-day Arizona event will be held Sept. 21-22 at Arizona Mills mall in Tempe.
