SC.gov Site Ranked Among Top in the Nation
SC.gov Recognized for Innovation and Usability
COLUMBIA, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- For the first time in the state's history, South Carolina's official website, SC.gov, has been rated one of the top government websites in the nation. The Center for Digital Government awarded SC.gov a fourth-place ranking in its prestigious Best of the Web competition.
The competition, which recognizes significant achievement in the overall web presence of state and local governments, evaluated South Carolina's site in a wide range of categories including overall innovation, web-based delivery of public services, accessibility, efficiency and functionality.
In April 2013, SC.gov, http://www.SC.gov, unveiled an innovative new design featuring an open layout and a wide variety of enhancements designed to increase functionality while also providing the best possible experience for the state's citizens, businesses and government entities. New features include a mobile friendly design, centralized listings for 160 online services and 200 agency social media pages, featured services on the navigation menus and a "Connect with Us" hub. The site also offers a more prominently placed search feature allowing visitors to access services, resources, "top searches" and "best bets" agency information with ease. Striking user-provided imagery of the Palmetto State's distinctive and diverse beauty - from the coastal "lowcountry" to the mountainous "upstate" - provide the visually compelling backdrop for the SC.gov homepage with added "hot spots" to promote government initiatives and online services.
"We are extremely honored that the Center for Digital Government has distinguished South Carolina as a national leader in eGovernment services," stated Jimmy Earley, Director of the Division of State Information Technology. "SC.gov has taken a dramatic leap forward in improving online services and interaction - emphasizing accessibility, transparency and efficiencies for citizens and businesses."
SC.gov offers a variety of government-related services and information 24 hours a day and seven days a week. The site provides numerous online resources to citizens and businesses of the Palmetto State, including information on living and working in South Carolina, state agency contacts and interactive maps. The portal also provides more than 160 interactive services which allow users to complete personal and business transactions online.
The SC.gov portal is developed and managed at no cost to the state and is the result of a unique public-private partnership between the South Carolina Budget and Control Board and South Carolina Interactive, the state of South Carolina's partner for online government services.
The 2013 Best of the Web competition recognizes the most innovative and user-friendly state Web portals and was conducted by the Center for Digital Government, a national research and advisory institute on information technology policies and best practices in state and local government.
