IDT Introduces RapidIO®-Based Supercomputing and Data Center Reference Platform With 20 Gbps-Per-Port Switching and Intel Processing

IDT's RapidIO Switches and Bridges Provide Low Latency, Energy Efficiency, and Multi-processor Scalability for Intel-based Data Center and Supercomputing Solutions

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT®) (NAS: IDTI) , the Analog and Digital Company™ delivering essential mixed-signal semiconductor solutions, today announced a supercomputing and data center reference platform based on its 20 Gbps RapidIO interconnect devices. The platform features a RapidIO-based backplane, compute nodes with RapidIO-to-PCIe® interconnect, and Intel® Xeon®-based computing - enabling OEMs to quickly develop powerful, scalable, energy-efficient supercomputers and data centers.


The RapidIO-based reference platform is highly scalable and fast, supporting up to 48 advanced mezzanine card (AMC)-based compute nodes per chassis, with intra-chassis backplane communication speeds up to 20 Gbps. Additional scale is achieved with external RapidIO-based top-of-rack switching, scaling up to 64,000 nodes per system. The platform accommodates Intel Xeon and Xeon Phi™-class processing for supercomputing applications, and Intel Atom™-class processors for data centers with modular AMC-based computing nodes.

IDT's RapidIO switches offer 20 Gbps of bandwidth per link, 100 ns cut-through latency, 240 Gbps of aggregate non-blocking switch performance, robust fault tolerance and hot-swap support, and built-in reliable transmission. Energy-efficient system designs take advantage of RapidIO's 300 mW per 10 Gbps of data - the highest performance-per-watt compared to other interconnects. In addition, IDT's RapidIO-to-PCIe bridge provides network interface controller functionality consuming 2 Watts at 20 Gbps in a 13 x 13 mm package size, allowing for high-density solutions in computing applications.

The new platform will also be used as a basis for computing and switching reference design submissions by the RapidIO Trade Association (RTA) to the Open Compute Project. The reference designs can be used directly by data center and supercomputing operators to create high-density, low-latency systems.
