Humana, CarePlus Renew Florida Network Contract with HCA-Affiliated Facilities

Two-year statewide provider agreement provides continued access for Humana and CarePlus Health Plans Medicare and commercial members

TAMPA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Humana Inc. (NYS: HUM) and Hospital Corporation of America (HCA)-affiliated Florida hospitals announced today they have reached an agreement on a new two-year provider network contract.

The contract renewal enables Humana Medicare and commercial members, along with CarePlus Health Plans Medicare members, to continue receiving care at HCA's affiliated hospitals and medical facilities in South Florida, Tampa Bay, Central Florida, Jacksonville and Northwest Florida.

The existing Florida Medicare and commercial network contract with HCA's affiliated hospitals and medical facilities, Humana and CarePlus (Miami-based Medicare Advantage HMO owned by Humana) was scheduled to expire in August.

Under the new statewide network agreement, which took effect Aug. 15, 2013, more than one-million Florida members of Humana's commercial, Medicare, Medicaid and individual health plans will continue to have access to close to 40 HCA-affiliated Florida hospitals, stretching from South Florida to Tampa Bay to North Florida, for all covered inpatient and outpatient services.

HCA's affiliated Florida hospitals have been a part of Humana's statewide health care network since 1995 and CarePlus' provider network since 2005.

"We're very pleased to renew our Florida network provider agreement with HCA," said Humana Florida Network Management Vice President Randee Lehrer, "so that our current and prospective health plan members across Florida can be assured as they enroll this fall in their medical and health benefit plans for the coming year that they will have continuous access to care at HCA's network of hospitals and medical facilities statewide."
