Groupon Buys European Travel App Blink
Today Grouponsaid it has acquired the last-minute European travel app Blink for an undisclosed sum.
The Spain-based app company helps users find deals on same-day hotel bookings by partnering with more than 2,000 hotels throughout Europe. Blink will operate separately as it's integrated into Groupon's Getaway travel business and will be rebranded as "Blink by Groupon."
Aaron Cooper, senior vice president of Groupon Getaways, said in a statement that "the combination of a fantastic mobile app, same-day inventory management for properties and a team that is obsessed with mobile and last-minute travel will help us further expand our travel business as the go-to destination for great deals on great places to stay."
Groupon Getaways already offers deals on hotels around the world, travel packages, and full-service tours, and the company hopes Blink will strengthen its European deals.
Blink CEO and founder Rebecca Minguela said in the Groupon press release that, "We are looking forward to building more relationships with top hotels around the world and helping customers find unbeatable deals, even when booking at the last minute."
