Baker to Provide Bridge Safety Inspections for Virginia DOT

FALLS CHURCH, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE MKT:BKR), has been awarded a $1.0 million regional term safety inspection work order for bridges in the Northern Virginia (NOVA) District by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). The NOVA District encompasses the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudon and Prince William. This work order is part of the third term of a larger contract that was executed in February 2011. The present term agreement began on July 1, 2013, is for one year, and has a total value over the term of $2.0 million.

Specifically, Baker will provide bridge safety inspections for various types of bridge structures, including trusses and other major structures. All inspections will be done in accordance with applicable national and state standards and requirements. Baker may also provide load rating and analysis services of highway structures and bridges. The project presents the challenge of providing safe and economical bridge inspections in what is possibly the heaviest and most congested traffic in the nation.
