Stratasys' MakerBot Digitizer 3-D scanner has some serious implications for the 3-D printing industry. Available this October for $1,400, the Digitizer makes 3-D scanning as easy as clicking two buttons, which effectively opens up the world of 3-D scanning to everyday users.

The Economist compares this disruptive invention to the steam engine and the printing press. Business Insider says it's "the next trillion dollar industry."
