Newmont Mining Names New CFO

Greenwood Village, Colo.-based Newmont Mining gets a new CFO next week.

On Tuesday, Newmont announced that it has hired former Cliffs Natural Resources Executive Vice President and President of Global Operations Laurie Brlas to become Newmont's own Chief Financial Officer. Upon taking up her post on Sept. 9, Brlas will be in charge of global finance, business planning, value assurance, tax, treasury, internal audit, supply chain, information technology, and investor relations functions for Newmont. She will take over from current interim CFO Tom Mahoney, who took over from Russell Ball when Ball resigned on May 2.

Announcing the hire, Newmont Chief Executive Officer Gary Goldberg called Brlas an "accomplished leader with extensive experience in the mining industry" and a "track record of ensuring financial discipline, developing high performing teams and delivering strong business."
