WILMINGTON, Del.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Incyte Corporation (NAS: INCY) will ring the opening bell at the NASDAQ MarketSite today to support the start of Blood Cancer Awareness Month and the launch of Voices of MPN™, a new community awareness initiative to unite, connect and support people living with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs), a group of rare and progressive blood cancers that includes myelofibrosis, polycythemia vera and essential thrombocythemia.1 September 12 has been designated the inaugural MPN Awareness Day.

Incyte President and Chief Executive Officer Paul A. Friedman, M.D. will perform the honorary bell ringing ceremony today from 9:15 to 9:30 a.m. ET. A live webcast will be available at http://www.nasdaq.com/about/marketsitetowervideo.asx. Dr. Friedman will be joined by members of the Incyte leadership team and the patient advocacy community.

"Incyte is committed to making a difference in the lives of patients with cancer," stated Dr. Friedman. "We ring the NASDAQ opening bell today alongside the MPN community to mark the start of blood cancer awareness month and bring attention to rare blood cancers, like MPNs. We are simultaneously launching a new initiative that is intended to increase awareness of MPNs and encourage members of the community to join together and raise their voices in support."

Voices of MPN invites all members of the MPN community, including patients, advocacy organizations, and health care professionals to engage in a variety of events designed to help raise the voices of individuals affected by MPNs. The Voices of MPN website links people to disease information, educational programs and community activities, while inviting them to share their stories. A Wall of Voices (a virtual wall of recognition) invites a person to submit pictures and a few lines of testimony about an individual or organization who has touched the lives of those impacted by MPNs. Voices of MPN Facebook, YouTube and Pinterest pages invite people to learn more about MPNs and help spread awareness through social media sharing.

In conjunction with the initiative, Incyte is calling for nominations for "MPN Heroes: Recognizing the Champions Among Us," a program to recognize individuals and organizations who have provided health care above and beyond the standard of care, demonstrated outstanding commitment, provided leadership to the community, or advanced science for MPNs.
