Regulators Approve $66 Million Westar Transmission Line

Westar Energy announced today that Kansas regulators have approved a $66-million transmission project that should improve both the reliability and efficiency of local infrastructure.

The 345-kilovolt line will connect two separate substations, expanding industrial, commercial, and residential loads, and decreasing the risk of power failure. "Since about 2008, Westar has invested more than $1 billion in strengthening the Kansas transmission system," said Vice President of Transmission Kelly Harrison in a statement today. "During construction, projects bring jobs to the area economy, and once completed the lines improve the availability and reliability of electricity."

Regulators have approved full recovery costs from customers, with expected completion before 2017. This newest announcement comes as the latest in a series of recent regulatory approvals for transmission projects throughout the United States.
