Health Net's OHS Program Celebrates 35 Years of Public Safety and DUI Counseling

Local communities invited to community social to raise awareness

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Health Net Federal Services, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Health Net, Inc. (NYS: HNT) , today announced the 35th anniversary of its OHS Driving Under the Influence (DUI) counseling program. Since 1978, OHS has been committed to public safety by providing comprehensive DUI offender counseling and education programs in California. OHS has served thousands of clients each year through its programs designed to help prevent impaired driving.

"OHS has been a pioneer and innovator in the field of DUI treatment. Not only are we dedicated to improving public safety, but we also strive to improve the quality of life for our clients and their families," said Teri Kerns, OHS director of Operations.

Participation in a counseling program is required by California law upon conviction of a DUI. The OHS DUI program serves Californians from diverse social, economic and ethnic backgrounds and provides an alternative to the treatment system for convicted DUI drivers. OHS counselors help clients evaluate their alcohol and drug use through assessment tools and recommend lifestyle changes to help reach achievable goals and avoid future offenses.

"Health Net's DUI program provides an opportunity to effectively intervene with a large number of individuals while they are productive members of society, in an effort to help prevent future negative consequences of their substance abuse," said Tom Carrato, president, Health Net Federal Services. "We are proud of the longstanding dedication and distinguished community service provided by the OHS DUI program."

To commemorate the anniversary, OHS invites the public to a community social, "Driving Under the Influence: From Prevention to Prosecution," Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., at various locations. The event is a chance to meet the people behind the efforts to reduce the tragedies caused by impaired driving. The afternoon is expected to include local guest speakers, community leaders, information booths, networking opportunities and light refreshments. The community socials are scheduled to take place at the following OHS locations:

  • Alameda County, 344 Pendleton Way, Oakland, Calif.;

  • Contra Coast County, 2600 Stanwell Drive, #100, Concord, Calif.;

  • Santa Clara County, 625 Ellis St. #100, Mountain View, Calif.;

  • North San Diego County, 1050 Los Vallecitos, Blvd. #109, San Marcos, Calif.; and

  • Stanislaus County, 2260 Floyd Ave. #100, Modesto, Calif.
