Tuomey Healthcare to Roll out Amcom's Critical Test Results Management Solution Hospital-Wide

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Amcom Software, Inc. today announced Tuomey Healthcare is rolling out the Amcom® Critical Test Results Management (CTRM) solution hospital-wide to speed the critical test results communication process and improve patient care. The Sumter, S.C.-based organization decided to expand its use of Amcom CTRM due to the positive staff feedback and results achieved in the emergency department. Tuomey has seen a significant improvement in patient discharge times. This is possible because the system notifies the appropriate staff quickly when test results are available and can quickly update patients' electronic medical records.

Another reason to expand is to simplify reporting and streamline escalation to ensure compliance with the Joint Commission's guidelines on efficient critical test results communication. With any abnormal test result, the system will escalate the notification if a physician is unable to respond in a timely manner. All messages are HIPAA-compliant and reported with a full audit trail. This allows Tuomey staff to easily look up all communication between Radiology and a specific department, as well as note any violations.


The system significantly saves time and improves communication between radiologists and physicians. Prior to using Amcom CTRM, radiologists spent substantial time tracking down physicians to communicate abnormal patient test results. Today, Tuomey relies on the Amcom system to get the message to the right person at the right time. Radiologists no longer waste time closing the loop on a critical test result, which has led to increased staff satisfaction. "The Amcom system has been very effective," Bennett said. "I barely pay attention to it anymore because it's always working. Staff love that we've cut out the phone tag and wasted time."
