Avnet Technology Solutions Expands Distribution Agreement with Cisco into Latin America and the Caribbean

Enables Avnet's channel partners to offer complete data center and converged infrastructure solutions based on Cisco technology

TEMPE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Avnet Technology Solutions, the global IT solutions distribution leader and operating group of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), today announced its selection by Cisco (NAS: CSCO) as a high-value specialty distributor for data center products in Latin America and the Caribbean. This significantly expands upon the existing distribution relationship between Avnet and Cisco in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), and North America. The Latin American and Caribbean agreement with Cisco complements Avnet's engagements in the region with Cisco ecosystem partners EMC, NetApp and VMware. It also enables Avnet to provide channel partners with complete converged infrastructure solutions for data centers.

"Channel partners need innovative technologies, deep technical expertise and sophisticated integration capabilities to successfully solve their customers' data center challenges," said Sergio Farache, senior vice president and general manager, Avnet Technology Solutions, Latin America and Caribbean. "With the addition of Cisco to our portfolio in Latin America and the Caribbean, Avnet is uniquely positioned as a single source that channel partners can rely on for all of their data center needs. Avnet's resources, services and skills will enable partners to quickly and efficiently target the most complex data center environments, including those associated with converged infrastructure."

Under this agreement, Avnet will provide independent software vendor (ISV), system integrator (SI), and value-added reseller (VAR) partners with Cisco's data center technology. Avnet partners can also access Cisco's full product portfolio to offer their customers comprehensive solutions. The Cisco data center technology available through Avnet includes:

  • Nexus Data Center Family of Switches

  • MDS Family of Fiber Channel SAN Switches

  • Unified Computing System (UCS) Blade and Rack Servers (B and C)

Additionally, channel partners will be able to utilize Avnet's services to deliver pre-configured solutions with three levels of integration, including fully assembled and tested, remote base performance (BP) connection, and ready virtual machine. These solutions will be developed at the world-class Avnet Global Solutions Center, which has earned Cisco Unified Computing System B-Series Authorized Configurator (UBAC) and Cisco Unified Computing System C-Series Authorized Configurator (UCAC) certifications. These solutions can then be sent to customers' sites on behalf of channel partners via certified shipping.

"Avnet has consistently demonstrated that it has the proven skills and expertise needed to help Cisco and our channel partners win throughout the entire data center," said Andrew Sage, vice president of Americas distribution at Cisco. "As we expand our relationship into Latin America and the Caribbean, Avnet's technical expertise, strategic portfolio, sophisticated integration capabilities, and local market knowledge will accelerate our channel partners' success. Together, we will enhance our partners' abilities to solve their customers' business challenges with complete converged infrastructure solutions for data centers."

Avnet's Cisco partners in Latin America and the Caribbean will be supported by the distributor's recently formed Converged and Data Solutions group. This group supports technology suppliers that are leading the market with converged solutions, including Cisco, EMC, NetApp and VMware. It provides partners with assistance related to business consulting, technical pre-sales assistance and business development. Additionally, Avnet will support its channel community with demand generation; technical expertise; training and development; and financial and logistics services.

"With the creation of the Converged and Data Solutions group, Avnet brings the most advanced integration skills and expertise in converged infrastructure solutions for data centers to the Latin America and Caribbean region," said Nicolas Di Biase, regional business development manager for Converged and Data Solutions, Avnet Technology Solutions, Latin America and Caribbean. "The capabilities provide partners with clear differentiators, such as the Cisco SAP HANA application, FlexPod data center platform, and VSPEX infrastructure. This new business unit represents Avnet's commitment to helping our business partners find more opportunities to grow within the emerging converged infrastructure solutions market."

Cisco has worked closely with Avnet in the data center market since 2009. During that time, Avnet has developed a solution provider community for Cisco in EMEA and North America with deep data center expertise, and empowered them with a wealth of resources and tools designed to accelerate converged data center infrastructure market opportunities.

As a result of these efforts, Avnet recently received two Cisco Partner Summit Global awards, which recognize exemplary channel partners who demonstrate best-in-class business practices and serve as models to the industry. Avnet was selected as the Cisco Global Distribution Partner of the Year, and was also honored as the Cisco Worldwide Data Center Distributor of the Year for the second consecutive year.

Latin American and Caribbean partners can further develop their data center expertise through Avnet's SolutionsPath® practices, which focus on developing specialization in vertical markets, including finance and retail. Additionally, Avnet will provide partners with expertise in other markets driving the need for converged infrastructure solutions, including government, healthcare, hosting and outsourcing, energy, manufacturing and telecommunications.
