MtronPTI Lightens the Soldier's Load
Low Noise, Shock Resistant TCXO Replaces Ovenized Solutions in Reduced SWaP Applications
ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- MtronPTI, leader in precision frequency control and custom RF/microwave filters, today announced the M616x Series Precision TCXO/VCTCXO supporting the military's reduced Size, Weight and Power (SWaP) strategy. Paul Dechen, MtronPTI Vice President of Sales for Aerospace and Defense, says, "The heartbeat of portable field radios, satellite terminals and handheld test equipment is the timing reference. This oscillator needs to be stable enough for dependable field operation under environmentally hostile conditions. The M616x Series Precision TCXO delivers high shock immunity, low phase noise and tight temperature stability typically available only on larger OCXO designs. And the M616x uses about half the current of earlier solutions."
The typical soldier is buried under mounds of gear. Body armor may comprise most of the weight but increasingly electronics - multiband/multi-mission radios, UAV control tablets and anti-IED disrupters - add to his bulk. It's not unusual for a troop's burden to be 80 pounds. Large electronic gear also adds weight and clutters transport vehicle dashboards, restricting mobility. But that's changing. The Defense Department's reduced Size, Weight and Power (SWaP) strategy demands more efficiency to lighten the overall load resulting in increased maneuverability, survivability and lethality.
Paul continues, "Portable terminals are subjected to a wide ambient temperature range, high shock and vibration during transport and operation. The M616x Series first brings harsh environment performance - proven lower phase noise, tight stability and low g-sensitivity - and second, helps portable equipment designers meet their SWaP objectives."
The M616x Precision TCXO/VCTCXO is shipping today with operating frequencies from 8 MHz to 52 MHz, stability over temperature to ± 0.10 ppm and -156 dBc/Hz typical phase noise at 100 kHz offset. Special crystal processing creates excellent vibration immunity: down to 0.6 ppb/g. The M616x Series fits well wherever high stability/low noise clock sources are required including: WLAN, WiMax base stations, point-to-point/multi-point radios, portable test instruments, medical equipment, frequency translation/synthesizers, manpack satellite terminals, avionics, GPS, and land mobile radio.
