iRobot Launches New Floor-Cleaning Robot in North America

iRobot , the name behind the Roomba vacuum cleaning robot, today announced a new addition to its robotic floor cleaners available in North America: two models of its new Braava machine, which utilizes microfiber cloths to catch dust and debris.

iRobot's Roomba, launched in 2002, serves as a robotic vacuum, while the Scooba line of cleaners wash floors. Both Roomba and Scooba make multiple passes over the floor. The new Braava models, on the other hand, utilize microfiber cloths to catch dust and debris in one pass, according to iRobot, which puts the machine in the "dry or damp mop" category.

"With more than 10 million home robots sold worldwide," said Christian Cerda, senior vice president and general manager of iRobot's Home Robots business unit, in the press release, "iRobot is focused on bringing new solutions like Braava to market, enabling people to take better care of their homes."

The Braava 320 and Braava 380t are currently available at retail outlets beginning at $199. Braava was introduced to the European market earlier this year.
