PECO Invests More Than $500,000 to Inspect 10,000 Miles of Aerial Line and 1,885 Circuits to Ensure Continued Electric Service Reliability Across the Region

PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- PECO has invested more than $500,000 to complete its annual inspection of 1,885 circuits and more than 10,000 miles of aerial electric lines across the region. This work is part of the company's ongoing maintenance and electric service efforts to help keep the lights on for customers.

The program includes visual inspection of PECO's aerial electric system to look for potential issues like damaged equipment and sagging lines. Infrared cameras also are used to identify potential future issues before they occur by recording temperature variations within a piece of equipment while it is in operation.


"Preventative maintenance programs help us identify and address potential issues before they impact our customers," said John McDonald, vice president of Technical Services. "Each year we invest millions of dollars to continuously monitor, inspect, repair and replace equipment, which is crucial to ensuring safe and reliable electric service for our customers."

These inspections are part of PECO's overall preventative maintenance program, which includes regular inspection of equipment on the company's natural gas and electric systems, including manholes, underground cables, transformers, substations and other electrical equipment.
