Rancore Selects TranSwitch's Atlanta Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) Solution to Support Reliance's New 4G Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) Service in India

TranSwitch's Atlanta 80 Communications Processor Supports Multiple, Simultaneous Services and Applications, Including 4G High Speed Data and High Quality VoLTE

SHELTON, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- TranSwitch® Corporation (NASDAQ: TXCC), a leading provider of semiconductor solutions in the rapidly growing consumer electronics and telecommunications markets, today announced that the Company's Atlanta™ 80 communication processor has been selected by Rancore Technologies, the technology and development arm of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL). RJIL is a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) focused on the rollout of next generation Broadband Wireless and Wireline services in India. TranSwitch's Atlanta 80 processor will enable Rancore's new analog terminal adaptor (ATA), optimized for Reliance Jio Infocomm's upcoming 4G LTE Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) network, to support multiple services and applications simultaneously, including high-speed data and Voice over LTE (VoLTE).

RJIL is the only company with a pan-India BWA license, providing access to all 22 telecom circles in the country. A recent decision by India's Telecom Commission allows BWA spectrum holders to setup voice services, paving the way for Reliance to setup its 4G VoLTE data and voice network. LTE services are expected to commence in the second half of 2013, with a multiyear rollout plan across India.

"We are excited to be working closely with TranSwitch to develop our new residential ATA solution optimized for RJIL Broadband network in India," said Mr. Atul Agrawal, Vice President - Product Development at Rancore. "By leveraging TranSwitch's high performance Atlanta 80 communications processor and VoLTE software, Rancore's new equipment will be able to provide simultaneous high-speed Internet and quality voice service to enable a superior user experience."

According to a recent report by Arc Chart, the number of VoLTE users worldwide is expected to reach 74 million by 2016. This large install base is expected to be driven by the transition from circuit-based to IP-based voice and the continued deployment of LTE data networks. Moreover, many carriers around the globe are adopting wireless 4G VoLTE over traditional DSL landline networks due to lower cost per subscriber and lower maintenance costs.

"VoLTE enables carriers to offer high quality data, multimedia, and voice services to their users. These networks are especially attractive in developing countries, helping to deliver advanced services to a significant portion of the population not supported by wired infrastructure," said Tim Blanke, vice president of sales and marketing at TranSwitch. "Through close collaboration with Rancore, our Atlanta 80 communication solutions are enabling a high performance 4G LTE ATA that will deliver multiple, simultaneous services without loss of performance. We are very pleased to be working with Rancore and look forward to supporting the RJIL VoLTE rollout in India."

TranSwitch's Atlanta 80 communications solution combines a RISC processor, digital signal processor (DSP), and encryption and packet acceleration engines. This communication processor offers 100 Mbps wire speed router throughput for Ethernet frames as small as 64 bytes, while supporting virtual private network (VPN) services. This level of performance enables multiple, simultaneous services and applications without loss of performance. The Company's Atlanta 80 processor is optimized for secure broadband gateways, media / analog terminal adaptors (M/ATA), and Voice over IP - Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (VoIP-DECT) phones.

TranSwitch Atlanta 80 Key Features:

  • 200 Mbps, wire-speed routing throughput performance
