Marvell Says Jury Sides With It in Patent Infringement Case

Named a defendant, along with several other information technology companies, in a patent infringement lawsuit first brought in June 2010 , MarvellSemiconductor today announced that a jury in Marshall, Texas, found it did not infringe on patents owned by Lake Cherokee Hard Drive Technologies.

The suit asserted that Marvell and six other defendants infringed on two patents owned by Lake Cherokee relating to read channel technology, according to documents (link opens in PDF) filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division. In its statement, Marvell said the patented technologies are not used in its chips, and the jury agreed.

Regarding the jury's decision, Marvell Chairman, President, and CEO Sehat Sutardja was quoted as saying, "I'm pleased to have this litigation behind us so that we can continue to focus our energies on what we do best -- designing and delivering the world's most innovative semiconductor products."
