Voip-Pal Addresses Lawful Intercept's Ability to Intercept SMS (Text Messaging) and MMS (Picture Messaging) in Addition to Other Forms of VoIP Communications

BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Voip-Pal.com Inc. ("Voip-Pal", "Company") (OTC Pink: VPLM) is issuing a statement regarding the ability of its patented Lawful Intercept Technology (U.S. Patent No. 8,422,507), to intercept SMS (text messages) and MMS (multimedia or picture messages) and video chat in real time. A Forrester Research Report recently showed that text messaging has become a leading form of wireless communication accounting for six billion messages sent every day totaling over 2.2 trillion per year in the United States alone. Lawful Intercept provides the first patented solution to capture those messages in real time as a tool for law enforcement agencies and Homeland Security in the global war on terror.

The need to access criminal and terror suspect's text messages by law enforcement agencies is ever increasing. Currently a law enforcement agency must either have physical possession of the phone to run forensics exams or subpoena the mobile service provider assuming they record and store messages. Since wireless providers' current SMS retention policies vary there is no way to assure access to messages that can be key evidence or stop tragic acts of terror. In a hearing this year before the House Judiciary Subcommittee, state and local law enforcement groups have asked Congress to pass legislation requiring providers to record text messages and store them for at least 2 years. The House is working to update the 1986 Electronic Communications Privacy Act. The Justice Department has also requested that any update to the ECPA would allow the government access to Facebook messages and Twitter Direct Messages.

Voip-Pal's Lawful Intercept will offer solutions to these common law enforcement problems by providing the capability to immediately intercept text messages in real time and potentially thwart crimes and acts of terror. In addition to text messaging and VoIP call interception, Lawful Intercept can intercept video chat applications like Microsoft's SKYPE and Google Hangout. Voip-Pal believes that with the rapidly expanding role of VoIP communications across the globe, Lawful Intercept's capacity for real time interception of all forms of VoIP communications will become a fundamental tool for governments and law enforcement agencies worldwide in their efforts to fight and prevent crime and provide for national security.
