Judge Glenda Hatchett to Address American InterContinental University Graduates at 2013 Commencement Ceremony

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- American InterContinental University (AIU), an established institution offering both campus-based and online degree programs, will celebrate the academic accomplishments of more than 250 AIU Online graduates at its commencement ceremony Aug. 24. Judge Glenda Hatchett will deliver the commencement address.

Hatchett is known for her two-time Emmy nominated show, Judge Hatchett. She is also an accomplished author and recipient of the Emory Medal at Emory University of Law, the highest award given by the university. Hatchett received the award for her commitment to excellence and service within the community.

"Earning a degree is a major accomplishment for students," said Hatchett. "I'm thrilled to be part of AIU graduates' special day and look forward to learning more about their experiences."

In the last 10 years, AIU has graduated more than 80,000 students through its online and ground campuses. Students often return to AIU for second and even third degrees, and in the last 10 years, AIU has awarded more than 120,000 degrees to students through its online and ground campuses.

Showcasing Academic Achievement

In addition to Hatchett's commencement address, the graduation ceremony will also feature a speech by the AIU Student Speaker Crystal Hogue (AIU BBA 2012, MBA 2013). AIU graduates were invited to submit speeches highlighting their educational, professional and personal growth for the chance to be selected as the AIU Student Speaker.

AIU will also recognize Ana Carolina Lanuza, winner of the 2013 AIU Distinguished Alumni Award, at the ceremony. Each year, the AIU Alumni Association recognizes the achievements of one of its alumni with the award. Lanuza, who earned three degrees (AABA, BCSJ and MBA) from AIU Online and AIU South Florida, is the owner of Leverage Investigations, Inc., and serves as president of the Florida Association of Private Investigators.

Recognition for Active Duty and Veteran Graduates

AIU has long been dedicated to delivering degree programs that meet the needs of today's veterans and members of the military. For the first time this year, AIU will award active duty and veteran graduates with the Americana Military Cord. AIU is frequently recognized as a top military-friendly school by publications including Military Edge Magazine, G.I. Jobs Magazine and Military Advanced Education Magazine.

Commencement Events

The 2013 commencement ceremony will take place at Navy Pier in Chicago on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m. Hatchett will also participate in a special meet-and-greet Alumni Evening event for graduates on Friday, Aug. 23, at Harry Caray's in Chicago.
