Boeing Books 3 More 737 MAX 8 Orders
Not content with record backlogs on its best-selling 737 airliner -- backlogs it says will take years to work through -- Boeing announced today that it has finalized an order for three more 737 MAX 8 airliners to Czech carrier Travel Service.
The sale, valued at $301.5 million at list prices (significantly less in actual sales prices), brings the number of 737 MAX airplanes for which Boeing has booked orders to 1,498. According to Boeing's latest update on orders and deliveries, 648 net 737 orders have been booked in 2013.
In a statement on the sale, Boeing Commercial Airplanes Vice President for European Sales Todd Nelp commented that: "The 737 MAX will be an excellent fit for Travel Service, enabling the carrier to continue to expand its ever-increasing route network." Travel Service offers charter flights to more than 230 airports on four continents, as well as scheduled service to major European destinations through its Smart Wings brand. It currently operates 28 Next-Generation 737s.
Despite this news, Boeing shares were down 0.9% in early Wednesday trading, at $105.60.
