South Florida-based health care company to open two new, full-service medical centers in early fall

TAMPA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- CAC-Florida Medical Centers (CAC) announced today that the Miami-based health care company plans to open two new medical centers in Tampa Bay early this fall, bringing its unique full-service, multi-specialty, coordinated care approach to people in the bay area.

CAC-Florida Medical Centers will hire close to 40 associates to staff the two Tampa centers, one facility at 4340 W. Hillsborough Ave. and a second facility at 8326 N. Florida Ave, occupying nearly 25,000 square feet. Each CAC location will also include a separate Wellness Center where patients can participate in a wide range of social, health and lifestyle classes and activities, including on-site exercise classes through the SilverSneakers Fitness Program, the nation's leading exercise program for older adults.

In 2012, CAC expanded from its South Florida base to Central Florida, opening centers in Kissimmee and in the Pine Hills area of Orlando. The company will also add a third Central Florida center in early fall in the Semoran area of Orlando and will extend its South Florida presence into Broward County.

Both new Tampa full-service, multi-specialty medical centers will offer comprehensive outpatient medical care, including primary and specialty care, pharmacy services, pain management treatment and diagnostic testing. Physicians will be available 24 hours a day and transportation to the centers will be provided to patients in accordance with their health plan benefits.

"Our nearly 50 years of successfully serving diverse communities in Florida uniquely position us to bring to Tampa Bay our 'all in one place' concept of providing quality preventive, primary and specialty care, including wellness activities that make such a difference in our patients' lives," said CAC-Florida Chief Executive Officer Mark Kent. "We also ensure our associates mirror the face of the community we serve to create an environment of comfort, familiarity, and understanding of our patients' culture, language and traditions. We believe our full-service, coordinated care approach, coupled with the superb care and compassion of our physicians and staff will provide substantial benefits to the Tampa population."

Many CAC associates are bilingual and some are even tri-lingual.

All of CAC's medical centers have achieved certification by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as a level one Physician Practice Connections® - Patient-Centered Medical Home™, recognizing the company's long-time commitment to high quality primary and preventive patient care at its medical centers. In 2012, CAC also received additional recognition from NCQA for its achievement in Patient Centered Home measureable quality improvements.

CAC-Florida Medical Centers has also achieved three-year recognition through the Diabetes Recognition Program developed by NCQA and the American Diabetes Association to recognize physicians who have an established track record of providing excellent diabetes care to patients.

"By doing all of this, we've reduced unnecessary emergency room visits by 57 percent and in-patient admissions by 42 percent across patients in our diabetes program," said Kent.

CAC currently owns and operates 15 medical centers in South and Central Florida. Its medical centers serve Medicare Advantage members of CarePlus Health Plans, a Miami-based Medicare HMO with members in Tampa Bay, and patients with Original Medicare. The company also offers an affordable fee schedule for self-pay patients.
