Financial services firm Morgan Stanley has elected Rayford Wilkins Jr. to be the newest member of its Board of Directors, effective yesterday.

Wilkins has most recently acted as CEO for AT&T's Diversified Businesses division, and he retired from that position in March 2012. His previous leadership roles include President and CEO of SBC Pacific Bell, Group President of Marketing and Sales at SBC Communications, and CEO of Southwestern Bell Telephone.

This new appointment brings Morgan Stanley's total amount of board members to 15, with Wilkins serving on the Board's Nominating and Governance Committee. Additionally, Wilkins serves on the boards of YP Holdings LLC, Valero Energy, and America Movil.

Morgan Stanley's Chairman and CEO, James Gorman, was quoted in the company press release as saying he was eager to have Wilkins' presence within the company, stating that "he brings highly relevant leadership experience, both domestic and international, having managed through extensive change and transformation during his long career. His perspectives will benefit our other Directors, our management and our shareholders."
