Suncor Energy (TSX: SU) reported earnings on July 31. Here are the numbers you need to know.

EPS came in at $0.43. The 14 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ anticipated $0.61 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.43 for Q2 were 115% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.20 per share.

Margin details
For the quarter, gross margin was 52.2%, 30 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 16.6%, 350 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 7.0%, 350 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. (Margins calculated in GAAP terms.)

Looking ahead
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $10.10 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.76.
