P&G Survey Finds 93 Percent of Moms Face Back-to-School Challenges, Inspiring Mom's BTS Checklist

Moms Will Share Tips for Stress-Free BTS Season During the #PGBacktoSchool Twitter Party on Aug. 1

CINCINNATI--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- With the back-to-school (BTS) season right around the corner, many moms find themselves overwhelmed with all the things that need to be done before transitioning from the free-wheeling days of summer to the scheduled days of fall. In a recent P&G and ORC International survey*, 93 percent of moms say they face challenges during the BTS season and half say that shopping for and/or the cost of new school supplies are the most challenging part. With so much to do before the first day of school, many moms may wonder, "who will take care of me?" It is with this in mind that the Procter & Gamble Company (NYS: PG) created Mom's Back-to-School Checklist, featuring tips and tricks to help busy moms navigate the hectic BTS season and prepare their family and households for a successful school year.

"Like most moms, I find this can be an overwhelming time of year. With four sons going back-to-school in the fall, my lists are pages long," program "Spokesmom" and MomGenerations blogger Audrey McClelland said. "The best back-to-school tip I can offer is for mom to take a little time for herself, even if it's just enjoying a cup of coffee in your quiet house before the kids wake up or trying out some morning yoga." McClelland also recommends:

  • Make the Most of Your Lists -A favorite organizational strategy for moms everywhere, there's no shortage of "lists" as moms make their back-to-school preparations. Remember to keep your lists handy -whether it's a pad of paper in your purse or a note-taking app on your Smartphone.

  • Prepare Your Home -Before school starts, carve out time to organize and deep clean your home. Look for opportunities to involve your kids, and always donate or pass on what's still in good condition and usable.

  • Choose to Celebrate! -Instead of facing the new school year with a sense of dread, plan a fun activity with some school friends your kids may not have seen much over the summer to get them excited about going BTS, or plan a special family dinner and share favorite summer memories, as well as what everyone is most looking forward to in the new school year.

As part of Mom's Back-to-School Checklist, P&G conducted a BTS readiness survey with ORC International. The survey was used to uncover the biggest pain points among moms when preparing their kids to go BTS, as well as ways to help her family with the transition. Survey highlights include:

  • 85 percent of moms surveyed say they agree that having a clean/well-organized home helps kids perform better in school.

  • 70 percent of moms surveyed say their top strategy for getting kids motivated and excited to go BTS is to involve them in the BTS supply shopping.

  • 94 percent of moms surveyed say that a well-organized and executed schedule helps them be a better mom.

  • Nearly half (47 percent) of moms surveyed say getting back into regimented sleep patterns and getting the family back to a set schedule are challenges for their families facing the back-to-school season.

  • 55 percent of moms surveyed say ending summer with some sort of fun celebration is among the best things they do for their family to prepare for BTS.

  • More than half (52 percent) of moms surveyed say cleaning or organizing her house is the best help she can receive when getting the household BTS ready.

On Thursday, August 1 at 9 p.m. ET, McClelland will host the #PGBackToSchool Twitter Party where moms can share tips and tricks for navigating the hectic season and win BTS essentials from P&G and Five Star® in the process.

Additionally, through an online promotion running until Aug. 1 with SheKnows.com, two lucky moms - one in Boston and one in Philadelphia - will win a prize pack delivering many of their family's back-to-school needs, including: P&G household and school supplies from Bounty®, Duracell®, Ivory®, Pampers®, Puffs®, back-to-school products from Five Star®, a professional house cleaning to get their household off to a fresh start, and a gift card for kids to do some BTS shopping of their own.
