Sanford-Brown Schools Host National Family Wellness Week to Help Families Prepare for Back-to-School Season

Sanford-Brown Colleges and Institutes Open Their Doors to Offer Free Health Screenings

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Did you know physically fit children have a 2.4 times greater chance of passing math tests and twice as great of chance to pass reading tests compared to their less fit peers?1 Or that children with healthy diets perform better in school than children with unhealthy diets?2

Sanford-Brown recognizes the importance of teaching children healthy habits while they are young and knows that life can get in the way of families making preventative healthcare a priority, especially when the cost of healthcare services can add up fast. That's why the school is providing free health screenings at 20 of its campuses across the country this month as part of its national Family Wellness Week. The mission is simple: To empower families to live healthy lifestyles.

From July 29 - Aug. 4, families are invited to join Sanford-Brown campuses to take advantage of free health screenings and educational activities that will help get their health back on track. With a focus on teaching children to maintain healthy lifestyles, students and instructors from the allied healthcare programs will offer their time and skills to help local families learn healthy habits, ask questions, take advantage of free health screenings, and get ready (and healthy) to go back to school.

"A child's health is closely related to the health of his or her family, and working to better children's health will have lasting effects on their families and the community as a whole," said Tom O'Donnell, Vice President of Operations at Career Education. "As we head into the back-to-school season, we want to pause and help our communities focus on making small but vital improvements to their health and wellness."

Family Wellness Week activities will be targeted to kids, but campuses will provide opportunities to help mom, dad, grandparents and pets live healthy lifestyles as well. Campuses will offer basic health screenings for children, including vision checks, BMI screenings and fun fitness activities that will help kids enjoy exercising. There will be additional activities for parents and even the family pets who accompany the children, such as massages, blood pressure screenings and pet health screenings and education.

Sanford-Brown has a long tradition of giving back to its communities, both in and out of the classroom. Throughout their training, students are encouraged to apply their clinical knowledge to real-world situations. They take part in a variety of service learning projects to help prepare them to become caring professionals and give back to the communities in which they live and learn.
