Baker Selected as Subconsultant on Ohio River Bridges Project

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE MKT:BKR), was brought on board by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) as a subconsultant to Community Transportation Solutions (CTS) for the Ohio River Bridges project in Louisville, Kentucky, and Jeffersonville, Indiana, to assist with design reviews for this design-build project. CTS is a joint venture enterprise composed of Parsons Transportation Group; Beam, Longest and Neff, LLC; and Haworth-Meyer-Boleyn Professional Engineers, Inc.

Under the two-year, $5.4 million contract, Baker will provide technical design reviews for and on behalf of KYTC. This includes reviews primarily for a new three-tower cable-stay bridge on Interstate 65 over the Ohio River, geotechnical review for all structures, electronic project review tracking, and numerous other review and related services. In addition to the bridge, Baker will provide design reviews and input on the interchange bridges and approach spans, structural walls, roadways, traffic maintenance, intelligent transportation services, tolling facilities, and aesthetic design elements.

"We are proud to have been selected as an important team member on this very large regional transportation project," said Baker's Patrick Osborne, project manager. "It provides us with the opportunity to continue our involvement with the project and to strengthen our relationship with the KYTC." Previously, Baker had participated in the bridge-type selection process and preliminary design of the bridge, and assisted the KYTC with the development of the design-build request for proposals and all project requirements.
