Ford and Toyota Split Over Hybrid Pickups

Ford and Toyota made headlines two years ago when the two auto giants said that they had joined forces to create a hybrid drivetrain for full-sized pickup trucks and SUVs. The alliance made total sense: Toyota is the hybrid leader, and Ford is the pickup leader (and no slouch in hybrids), and if anyone could come up with a breakthrough fuel-efficient pickup drivetrain, it seemed like these two working together would the best shot.

Well, it's over. The two companies said this week that they had dissolved their arrangement, with Ford saying it was on track to develop its own hybrid pickups -- without Toyota's help.
