A Day at the Beach With Entertainment Tonight's Nancy O'Dell

The Rock serenades Nancy O'Dell on the beach in Hawaii
Summer's in full swing, and millions of Americans are plotting a beach escape -- for a day, a weekend or a luxurious longer stretch of sandy R&R.

We caught up with Nancy O'Dell from Entertainment Tonight for the inside scoop on the host's Hawaiian beach day.

I am: Co-Host of Entertainment Tonight

Your beach stay in 2 words: Work, Play.

What beach did you visit? Kahala Beach [on Oahu, Hawaii]

Who went with you? I was going there to do interviews for E.T., so the E.T. crew was there, of course. But it was Hawaii after all, so I wanted to bring my kids and hubby too!

Where did you stay?Kahala Hotel & Resort

What's your must-do thing in this beach area? Swim with the dolphins! The hotel itself has a large natural lagoon as part of the resort, so it is a great place to stay with the kids! They have a Dolphin Quest program where my daughter, my stepson and I got the chance to interact with the dolphins face-to-face!

You'd never go to the beach without packing: Hair protection. My hair gets damaged enough from all the daily styling for the show [so] the last thing I need is to damage it more from sun exposure. So I use the heat of the sun to give it a treatment! I put RUSK Deepshine Oil all over my hair before heading to the beach. It makes for a nice sleek hair do, but conditions and protects it at the same time.

What's your beach soundtrack? Well, for this trip it has to be Dwayne Johnson's rendition of "What a Wonderful World" while playing the ukulele, which he did for me. He has a great voice! And if Dwayne is not around to play for us, then Spanish guitar music is my beach soundtrack -- there's nothing better than a nice ocean breeze while listening to relaxing Spanish guitar music.

You'd be crazy to leave here without eating the: the pineapple! It sounds simple, but the pineapple tastes so much better in Hawaii! It's so rich with flavor!

Your Beach Day:

6 a.m.: Coffee on the balcony overlooking at the ocean and go for a run! I love to get up early and watch the sun coming up with the smell of freshly brewed coffee, then it's time to go for a run along the beach. I swear if I lived in Hawaii, I would run every single day. The view is so beautiful and peaceful, you forget you are running!

9:30 a.m.:Hair and makeup and then time for the work-part of the trip ... but I can't complain. I went to Hawaii to interview Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, one of my faves. So the work-part felt like play, plus my backdrop was the gorgeous beach!

Noon: Lunch with the family at the Seaside Grill right on the beach, literally, while sipping on a mimosa.

2 p.m.: Back on the beach for a "treasure hunt" and beach sports. My daughter loves to search the beach for pretty shells and beach creatures like sand crabs. My stepsons love to play paddle ball and throw the football and frisbee. We make up all kinds of games with the beach sports.

4 p.m.: Time to meet new friends with flippers! How fun... to not only swim with the dolphins, but to feed them, watch them do tricks and learn more about these amazing animals! It was a highlight for my kids and for me too!

On a scale of 1 to 10, how badly do you want to go back to this beach? (1 = "Yuck, no thanks!" 10 = "Already have the next trip booked!"): 10! We miss our new dolphin friends and I didn't get enough shopping done in Waikiki!

Nancy O'Dell is co-host of Entertainment Tonight, a daily entertainment news show on CBS. The show covers celebrity news, events and interviews, and is the longest-running Hollywood and entertainment news television program.
