Audible Studios to Hold an Open Audition for the Audiobook of Guy Kawasaki's APE: Author, Publisher, Entrepreneur

Kawasaki and Audible seek the right voice to bring Kawasaki's bestseller to life; invite actors to submit online auditions

NEWARK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Audible Studios, the production arm of Audible, Inc., the world's largest seller and producer of digital spoken-word entertainment, seeks a dynamic narrator to perform Guy Kawasaki's comprehensive and inspiring guide to self-publishing, APE. Audible invites actors to participate in an online audition for the work by submitting a recording of the APE introduction at www.acx.com/ape. Kawasaki will choose the winning audition, and Audible Studios will produce the audiobook immediately upon announcing the chosen actor.

Among the acclaimed actors who have recently recorded audiobooks for Audible Studios are Alan Cumming, Anne Hathaway, Claire Danes, Colin Firth, Diane Keaton, Dustin Hoffman, Elijah Wood, Hilary Swank, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jennifer Connelly, Kate Winslet, Kenneth Branagh, Kim Basinger, Meg Ryan, Nicole Kidman, Samuel L. Jackson and Susan Sarandon. In May, Audible Studios won the 'Audiobook of the Year' for its production of Graham Greene's novel, The End of the Affair, performed by Academy Award-winning actor Firth, as well as the Distinguished Achievement in Production Award for its multicast dramatization of Bram Stoker's Dracula, and the fiction award for Danes's performance of Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale. These achievements followed upon Audible Studios' Grammy win earlier this year in the sole category awarded to outstanding performances of literature, for Janis Ian's autobiography, Society's Child. With Audible Studios, Audible, Inc. has become the largest producer of audiobooks in the world.

"Audible makes producing the audio version of a book easy and affordable for every author," said Google/Motorola advisor and former Apple evangelist Kawasaki. "This enables authors to reach as broad an audience as possible. Audible has also galvanized the growth of the art form of audiobook narration, which is great for an entirely different population."

"Working with Guy to bring his important new book to audio is a perfect partnership. We are always looking to encourage self-empowered authors, and Guy is someone who truly understands how authors, narrators and publishers can use channels like social media to promote their work and engage their audiences," said Jason Ojalvo, VP Content Creation. "Audible is also eager to amplify authors' marketing outreach to their fans with our own promotion to Audible's growing membership of avid audiobook listeners."

Kawasaki is the author of eleven other books, including The Art of the Start and Enchantment, and is the co-founder of Alltop.com, an "online magazine rack" of popular topics on the web.

The audition text for APE can be found at www.acx.com/ape. In order to upload an audition, actors will be required to create an acx.com account. The Audiobook Creation Exchange (www.acx.com) is an online audiobook rights marketplace and production platform launched by Audible in 2011. Actors who visit ACX to submit auditions will find over 3,000 additional titles for which they can audition; earlier this year, ACX announced a tenfold increase in production between 2012 and 2011.
