Kentucky American Water Chief Operator Doug Brooks Named Kentucky's Operator of the Year by AWWA

LEXINGTON, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Kentucky American Water Chief Operator Doug Brooks has been recognized with the 2013 Operator Meritorious Award from the Kentucky/Tennessee Section of the American Water Works Association. Brooks received the award during the Kentucky/Tennessee Water Professionals Conference held earlier this week in Louisville, Ky., and attended by more than 1,400 water and wastewater professionals.

The award recognizes operators who demonstrate excellence in their profession, an exemplary commitment to the water utility industry and dedication to quality service.

Brooks joined Kentucky American Water in 2008 as an operator at the company's Richmond Road Station water treatment plant and currently serves as chief operator of the company's newest treatment facility, the Kentucky River Station II at Hardin's Landing water treatment plant in Owen County. He was nominated for the AWWA award by Kevin Kruchinski, superintendent of production operations for Kentucky American Water. In his nomination letter, Kruchinski highlighted Brooks' professionalism and continuous drive for excellence, his desire for continuous learning, his positive demeanor with peers and supervisors and his efforts to work with other operators to optimize operations. He further highlighted Brooks' ongoing desire to cross-train at other Kentucky American Water facilities and his recent accomplishment of completing the Kentucky Rural Water Association's Utility Management Institute certification program.

"Doug has the skills, experience and leadership capabilities that make him a model for all water treatment plant operators," Kruchinski said. "He is the kind of professional that helps Kentucky American Water continue to achieve national recognition for the tap water it delivers to its customers every day. Doug is most deserving of this award, and we are so proud that he is part of the Kentucky American Water family."

Brooks, a native of Cynthiana, Ky., holds a Class IV Water Treatment Plant Operators Certification and Class II Distribution Certification. He is also a Certified Firefighter/EMT. He and his wife Mary reside in Cynthiana with their daughter, Courtney.
