Reminder: Assassin's Creed 2 is free on Xbox 360 today

Hey Xbox owners, as a friendly reminder, today sees the free release of Assassin's Creed 2 to all Xbox LIVE Gold subscribers as part of Microsoft's new "Games With Gold" program. Under the new program, Xbox LIVE Gold members are two receive two free games per month -- on the 1st and 16th of every month.

There was initially some confusion regarding when Assassin's Creed 2 would be part of the program. It was originally thought thatAssassin's Creed 2 and Halo 3 would kick off the program as the first free games, but as it turns out those were only mentioned "as part of the program" and that "no date was given for their release."

Earlier this month, tower defense game Defense Grid: The Awakening was made free to Gold members. Did you download and play it?
