Monster.com Survey Reveals Office and Administrative Workers Among Least Satisfied with Jobs, More Likely to be Actively Job Searching

MAYNARD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Monster.com, the worldwide leader in successfully connecting people to job opportunities and flagship brand of Monster Worldwide, Inc. (NYS: MWW) , today released new survey results focusing on office and administrative support occupations. It finds that customer service and administrative jobs are the largest drivers of growth in this segment. This is the fifth significant finding of Monster's Workforce Talent survey of nearly 6,000 registered Monster users, covering general job market insight and sentiment.

There are over 16.3 million clerical professionals1 in the US, with customer service representatives, supervisors of office support workers, and executive administrative assistants ranking in the top three occupations. Among Monster employed jobseekers, these occupations were among the least satisfied among the pool of surveyed talent. Only 27% of administrative professionals and 21% of customer service representatives expressed satisfaction with their jobs. They were also among the least confident in their ability to find a new job with just 7% feeling extremely confident. Furthermore, over 80% agree that it is more challenging to find a job than it was a year ago and that competition is fierce. The survey also revealed that over 60% don't feel their employers are willing to provide the needed time and training to support their jobs.

Conversely, while survey respondents express low job satisfaction as clerical and administrative workers, more than half (59%) would not consider relocating, even though only 19% of those surveyed agree that employers are willing to provide higher compensation than a year ago. This unwillingness to move may stem from the fact that New York and Los Angeles, two of the most desired job locations in the country, are within the top markets for this segment.

"Administrative and customer service professionals could potentially be underutilized and more generally, feel a lack of support and recognition," said Jeffrey Quinn, Vice President of Monster's Global Insights. "With just over one-half (51%) of these workers expressing confidence that managers understand their skills and abilities, it is up to employers to rise and meet the challenge of creating a supportive and happy workplace."
