Colorado Department of Labor and Employment Goes Live with Online Surcharge Payments
DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Today, the Division of Workers' Compensation announces the launch of its new online application which will allow for electronic calculations and an online option for Surcharge Payments.
The Surcharge Payment Application will afford numerous advantages for those insurers who choose to file and pay online. The new electronic application will allow payers to calculate surcharge and save filing information for up to 30 days. Utilization of the calculator should eliminate unnecessary errors. There is also an electronic notary component and the ability to upload notarized signatures. Additionally, payers have the ability to upload attachments - as in the case of a self-insured employer of day laborers with multiple job classifications to report.
"Our goal was to build an application that would deliver both convenience and accuracy for surcharge payments," said Paul Tauriello, Director of the Division of Workers' Compensation, "and this new service delivers that."
Surcharges are paid on a bi-annual basis by approximately 500 insurers and 100 self-insured employers. The Division of Workers' Compensation collected $20,541,599.00 in surcharge payments during the 2012 calendar year. Each year the Division Director is required to perform a review to determine the monies needed to operate each of the programs.
The surcharge payment offsets the costs of administration of the Colorado workers' compensation system. This is done by levying a surcharge on insurers for workers' compensation premiums received in the state. In the case of self-insured employers, it is calculated as a surcharge on premium equivalents. Additionally, the new surcharge process is consistent with the strategic initiatives of the Department of Labor and Employment - goals that focus on customer service, partnerships and stakeholder relationships, process improvement and technology.
This new service was made possible through the partnership between Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, Division of Workers' Compensation and Colorado.gov.
