Intertek's San Antonio Automotive Powertrain Research Facility Celebrates 60 Years

Intertek demonstrates ongoing commitment to the transportation industry through continued investment in its automotive testing facility.

SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Intertek, a leading quality solutions provider to industries worldwide, celebrates the 60th anniversary of its San Antonio automotive powertrain testing laboratory. The occasion is marked by the recent expansion of the site's engine development facility, completed in June 2013, which is equipped to provide a leading testing and validation solution for North America manufacturers seeking development assistance and emissions testing.

When the site first opened as Automotive Research Associates in April 1953, the company operated with six drivers working two shifts a day. Intertek acquired the lab in 2005, and today the facility employs more than 200 people and features extensive testing capabilities for engines, emissions, transmission, lubricants, and other transportation-related applications. The recent expansion was purpose-built to accommodate operation of heavy-duty diesel engines through both on- and off-highway emissions cycles, allowing Intertek to accommodate larger after-treatment components, test equipment, and other accessories while providing a local, cost-effective solution for manufacturers.

"Intertek continues to listen to our customers, and we will invest where necessary to meet their needs," says Tim Hubbard, Sr. VP of Intertek's Transportation Technologies Business Line. "The ongoing evolvement and tightening of emission and fuel efficiency standards, on a global scale, is driving new technology in the market, which in turn requires more innovative test equipment and test techniques. As a key partner to our customer's product development and compliance needs, Intertek is determined to provide them with the necessary resources to fulfil their test and engineering requirements."

After 60 years spent supporting the transportation industry, employee loyalty is a source of pride for Intertek's San Antonio facility, where currently more than 40 employees each have at least three decades of tenure at the company.

"We all take pride in doing our part to help customers improve products to reduce emissions, improve fuel economy and improve the performance and durability of engines and vehicles," said John Glaser, General Manager, Intertek San Antonio. "The loyalty of the employees and their dedication to their work is something our customers always notice because it directly translates into the best possible testing services."

Intertek San Antonio is one of the leading independent engine and powertrain testing laboratories in the world. It offers fuels, lubricants, materials, dynamometer, vehicle, durability, transmission, and analytical services to the transportation industry, as well as fleet management, test design, vehicle fluid analysis, data summary and final reporting, disassembly and engine deposit services, bench laboratory and volatile organic compound testing services, and lubricant and fuel qualification services.
