Praxair Foundation Sponsors U.S. Expansion of Nationally Recognized Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Program for Young Women

DANBURY, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Praxair, Inc. (NYS: PX) , today announced its charitable foundation has donated $105,000 to the American Association of University Women (AAUW) to support the national expansion of Tech Savvy, the group's successful science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) program for young women, to ten new cities. The AAUW is considering cities in which Praxair has operations, including Chicago, Houston, Indianapolis and the states of Connecticut and Mississippi.

Founded in 2006 by the AAUW Buffalo, New York branch and sponsored by Praxair, Tech Savvy is an annual, day-long conference designed to expose young women in middle school to the opportunities and careers in STEM fields through educational and fun hands-on activities.

"Ensuring there is a population of eager, focused and high-performing women in STEM fields is vital to our company's success," said Sue Neumann, vice president of Praxair Communications and president of the Praxair Foundation. "We are proud to support the AAUW and programs like Tech Savvy that help ensure young women are prepared to meet the complex technological challenges facing the world today."

Tech Savvy received national recognition from the White House in 2011, when Praxair's Leader of Community Engagement and founder of the program, Tamara Brown, was named as a White House Champion of Change.

"Praxair has supported this effort since its inception and has helped to demystify STEM careers for thousands of young women," said Brown. "Because of the opportunities provided, more young women are becoming empowered to change the world."
