AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- HomeAway, Inc. (NASDAQ: AWAY) the world's leading online marketplace for vacation rentals, today announced the appointment of Juan Carlos Fernández to the position of senior regional director of Southern Europe. In this position he is responsible for leading HomeAway's strategy in Spain, Italy and Portugal to strengthen the company's growth in the popular vacation markets of Southern Europe.

Fernández comes to HomeAway with more than 20 years of experience in multi-national companies. Before joining HomeAway, he worked at Microsoft® for over seven years where his positions included managing director of consumer & online business division in Spain; director of product strategy for advertising and online sales in Europe and leading Europe product strategies across 14 countries for online and advertising products. During his time at Microsoft, he successfully led the launch of Windows 7 in Spain and the online platform of Windows 8 and Skype™ rollout in Europe.
Prior to Microsoft, Fernández was responsible for the launch of Overture (Yahoo!) in Spain and helped manage the QXL Ricardo online auction marketplace. He earned a law degree and a master in business management and marketing from the Business School at the Complutense University of Madrid.
Fernández replaces Aurelie Lepercq who is stepping down after eight years with HomeAway.
