Geoff Owen joins Hill+Knowlton Strategies

Government relations strategist named group leader, Toronto public affairs

TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Hill+Knowlton Strategies Canada (H+K) - the country's No. 1-rated public and government relations company - is pleased to welcome Geoff Owen who joins the firm as vice-president and group leader of its Toronto public affairs team on August 1, 2013.

"With his consulting experience at one of the country's largest banks in both policy and communications, as well as his background in government, Geoff has the experience, connections and insights to drive results for our clients, and lead the Toronto team," says Ilyse Smith, general manager of H+K Toronto. "Geoff knows how to develop and implement strategies that fit the political and policy environment - both at Queen's Park and with critical stakeholders."

To this role, Geoff brings diverse experience developing and affecting policy in Ontario. He worked in various political and communications roles for two cabinet ministers and two Ontario premiers, including the minister of finance. Geoff has also volunteered in a variety of senior policy roles on several Progressive Conservative election campaigns.

His interest in financial and economic policy took him to London (UK) where he earned an M.Sc. in political economy and worked in ABN Amro's capital markets business. When he returned to Canada he worked at the Canadian Bankers Association and then RBC where he held positions as senior manager of regulatory affairs, head of business strategy for RBC Insurance and director of public affairs at the global head office. For the last two years, Geoff worked in a senior public affairs consulting role where he counselled clients in government-relations strategy, political-risk management, public-policy development and mergers and acquisitions.

Hill+Knowlton's public affairs practice includes representatives from all of the country's leading parties, which helps clients communicate and engage across party lines in government and with key influencers and stakeholders who shape decision-making. Today, that also includes the general public - and that means it is more important than ever that campaigns help address or mobilize the public in shaping policies that matter.

The practice at H+K works municipally, provincially and federally, and includes specialists in health care, technology, energy, finance, the environment and associations - just to name a few - as well as generalists who work with a broad swath of clients to get powerful results.
