Amazon Publishing Launches Original Line of Comics
Amazon's publishing division has launched Jet City Comics, which will offer original comics and graphic novels, kicking off with today's publication of Symposium #1, the first original Foreworld comic from the series created by Neal Stephenson, Greg Bear, Mark Teppo, Nicole Galland, Erik Bear, Joseph Brassey and Cooper Moo.
The brand will feature new works from names such as George R.R. Martin (Game of Thrones), Neal Stephenson, and Hugh Howey, among many others. Jet City issues will publish on Kindle as standalone comics, as serialized comics released over multiple episodes, and as bundled graphic novels, with print editions available at amazon.com and other comics retailers.
The release of Jet City Comics is the latest addition to the portfolio held by Amazon Content Services, LLC. The content line also features imprints 47North, Montlake Romance, and Skyscape, and adds to Amazon's reputation as a leader in the e-publishing industry.
Amazon Publishing Vice President Jeff Belle was quoted as saying the digitally presented comic books and graphic novels "represent a unique area for innovation." The company's goal with this venture is to "[adapt] great books for this medium as a means of expanding the audience for our authors, pushing boundaries with new ideas that combine visual and narrative storytelling, and creating compelling new experiences for readers."
