"White House Down" Free to Military on July 4

The nation's servicemen and women are getting a small Independence Day gift from Sony's film division. On July 4, the company will allow allow active-duty and veteran soldiers, plus a guest, to see the recently released White House Down for free at any theater operated by Regal Entertainment Group, Carmike Cinemas, Cinemark, and AMC.

The film is an action thriller about an attack by heavily armed paramilitaries on government institutions such as the title building. It stars Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx.

White House Down went into general release last Friday. It didn't fare well at the box office, coming in fourth in terms of ticket sales. It has been unfavorably compared to Olympus Has Fallen, a film with a similar theme and setting that was released earlier this year. On the movie information site IMDB.com, White House Down has a user score of 6.1 out of 10, compared with its rival's 6.6.
