Where to Go in Three Months

When it comes time to plan a vacation, most of us start at least thinking about where to go roughly 3 months out, then book our travel somewhere within that window.

With that time frame in mind, we're doing some of the legwork to get you thinking about your next vacation. We've crunched the numbers, checked the calendar, watched the weather, and checked out hotel and flight availability to pick where to go on a trip 3 months from now.
Despite its lack of major working holidays or breaks -- unless you're lucky and get a Columbus Day break -- October is a secret vacation score. Fall foliage ushers in prime tourist time in some places like New England, while other summer hotspots settle into shoulder season, when crowds leave and hotel rates drop, but the warm weather sticks around.

If you'll be traveling in October, here are our favorite fall hotspots.

New England
It's not too late to book a fall foliage trip in New England, though the longer you wait the more likely B&Bs and inns are to fill up. Northern New England, including parts of Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire, generally hits peak foliage season in mid-October, though you can start to see the leaves change as early as September. The farther south you go, into Massachusetts, Rhode Island and the southern coast of Maine and New Hampshire, the later the colors change. Read more>>

In-the-know travelers will tell you October is one of the best times to visit this floating city. Venice swells with crowds and humidity in the summer but by October the masses have subsided leaving lower hotel rates and quiet piazzas in their wake. If you'd rather experience Yellowstone's geysers, scenery, and plethora of wildlife without a crowd of other people taking up space in your photos consider visiting the national park in October.
