Disney Buys Paramount's Rights to Marvel Films

Disney is mopping up the last few odds and ends of Marvel that it doesn't yet own.

Four years after signing its $4 billion deal to acquire the comic book-cum-comic book movie producer, The Walt Disney Company announced Tuesday that it has inked a follow-on agreement among its Studios division, Marvel Studios subsidiary, and Paramount Pictures, to buy the latter's distribution rights to several Marvel Studios films.

Specifically, on June 30, Disney bought rights to Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger, paying an unspecified sum for the rights. Disney already owned the rights to Marvel's The Avengers and Marvel's Iron Man 3, having bought those from Paramount in 2010.

Paramount'sexisting distribution commitmentsremain in force. Future distribution rights now pass to Disney.
